If you are just starting out a wine kit is a great way to go. With a little experience you can graduate to purchasing wine must* instead of kits. You can also make wine directly from fresh or frozen fruit. Some samples and hints can be found on the Non Grape WIne page.
Equipment used to get started in home wine making will run from around $150-$300. You'll spend $100 to $300 to get the grape juice and other needed additives, to make your wine. (A wine kit)- Approximately six gallons {28-30 bottles} of wine- You've heard the phrase, "you get what you pay for". This is definitely true when it comes to purchasing wine kits.
There is no right or wrong way to make wine though, there are some less successful methodologies. Suggestions and hints can be found in the how to make wine section. What actually happened and what I actually did can be found in details; within the current efforts section.
*must- The juice and additives used to create the wine.
